Avoid being the next Target for payment malware

The well-publicized recent security breaches at Target, Neiman Marcus and Michaels may be just the tip of the iceberg and underscore why all merchants should review the security of their point-of-sale (POS) card payment systems on a regular basis.

The FBI says it has identified approximately 20 incidents related to POS malware in the past year alone. Attackers have recognized that POS systems are a good target because they are a regular point of processing valuable credit card information, and because they are sometimes less secure than typical computer systems.

So what can a retailer do to reduce its susceptibility to POS-based malware? Here are some tips:
