Mary Gail Manes is a Principal with LBMC Information Security, LLC.

Mary Gail Manes’ clients benefit from her practical, “voice of reason” perspective, which is based on more than 30 years of real-world experience working at the highest levels of information security.

With a background that includes 16 years heading up security for classified and unclassified computing at a U.S. Department of Energy (DoE) facility and more than 15 years consulting on the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Minimum Security Requirements, Mary Gail has special insight into the most complex and stringent security frameworks.

As a principal with LBMC Security & Risk Services, Mary Gail helps CMS contractors and other highly regulated clients improve their security posture by:

  • Enabling government contractors to qualify for additional contracts and performance awards through comprehensive risk assessments based on the stringent CMS Acceptable Risk Safeguards, FISMA standards and other security frameworks
  • Raising security awareness by demonstrating that information security is a critical element of managing the organization’s overall risk
  • Facilitating communication between IT professionals and C-level executives to achieve a shared understanding of business risks and the benefits of practical, customized controls
  • Optimizing security budgets by focusing resources on high-risk, critical areas

Mary Gail entered the information security world in 1981 as a software developer, database administrator and network administrator for a DoE facility. By the time she left in 1997, she was overseeing all network, application and system security for classified and unclassified computing.

After this experience securing the nation’s most sensitive assets, Mary Gail joined a Big Four accounting and consulting firm as southeast area leader for security architecture. She also served as security director for an Atlanta-based technology company before launching a security consulting practice in 2001.

Mary Gail graduated summa cum laude from East Tennessee State University (ETSU) with a Bachelor of Science in computer science, focusing on information systems. She later earned her Master of Science from ETSU with a focus on software engineering. She currently serves on the ETSU Computer Science Advisory Board.

Outside the Office

In addition to her memberships in the Information Systems Security Association and Technology Association of Georgia, Mary Gail is a member of Infragard, a public-private partnership spearheaded by the FBI to raise security awareness and protect national infrastructure.
